Most car coverage answers the question “what is it like to drive”. AutoCar answers a different one: why does this vehicle exist in this form, at this price, from this company, in this year. That question sits upstream of everything a buyer experiences, and it is where the industry's most consequential decisions are actually made.

What we cover

Four areas, each with its own section:

  • Future product. Concepts, product planning, and the decisions that determine what reaches a showroom.
  • EV tech. Batteries, charging, and the engineering trade-offs buyers feel every day.
  • Industry. Platforms, product cycles, manufacturing, and the economics behind them.
  • Explained. Reference material: the vocabulary, the standards, and the measurement methods.

How the desk works

AutoCar is written and edited by Jone Jone. Bylines here are personal: the name on a piece is the person accountable for its accuracy, and every byline links to a short biography.

Material that is genuinely pooled — reference pages, policy notes, corrections registers — carries the AutoCar Editorial desk byline instead, and is reviewed by the editor before it publishes.

Every article is reviewed by an editor before publication against the standards in oureditorial policy: sourcing, accuracy, labelling of speculation, and separation from advertising.

How we are funded

AutoCar is funded by advertising served through Google AdSense. We do not accept payment for coverage, we do not publish sponsored articles presented as editorial, and no advertiser sees an article before publication.

We do not reproduce text from other publications. Where we rely on public documents — regulations, standards, government test procedures — we link to them in the article's sources list so readers can check the primary material.

Corrections

We get things wrong sometimes. When we do, we correct the article and note the correction at the foot of the piece, with the date. The process is described in thecorrections policy, and reports go touniverseecar@gmail.com.
